Dream big without limits ~ I want the world to know that Down Syndrome does not define me. With your help, I can help break through walls~
This year has brought so much more than we ever expected. The pageant last year was on a whim that Mikayla wanted to do. I didn’t realize that it was going to be huge. I didn’t realize that she picked the largest pageant organization to participate in. And, I didn’t realize that she was the first woman with Down Syndrome to be a part of it.
Mikayla gained international recognition immediately. Through this, she has grown to become more outspoken for those with special needs. As a self advocate, she wants others to know that she is capable of so much. Our daughter has become a keynote speaker and spoke at the United Nations on the topic of Saving Down Syndrome. People are amazed at what she can and still wants to do.
Currently, she is an Ambassador and Champion for Best Buddies International. This role has made her even more outspoken. To watch her walk up to people and tell them about this incredible organization and to ask if they can help, simply blows me away.
I am so proud of her and her mission and how she wants to continue to change the way the world views those with special needs. ~ Sandi ~ Proud Mom
